Description
This ‘sew along’ live card making tutorial is accessed via Zoom on Friday 25th September at 18:00 BST where you’ll create a collection of embroidered greetings cards under Sarah’s guidance – she’ll be sewing along with you!
Whilst learning the best technique to create your embroidered designs you’ll also learn:
Where to position your hands to stop skipped stitches and frayed thread
How to correct your tension to avoid looping at the back and visible bobbin thread on the front
The best speed to start the technique
How to appliqué pieces of fabric to the card without using adhesives
Why thread quality, colour and fabric choice is so important
Tips on stitching tiny pieces of fabric to the card
How to avoid the card splitting and bending
Why your needle might break and how to stop this from happening
And of course how to achieve lovely fluid lines with your sewing
Sarah will share many tips with you throughout the class which will help you gain confidence with the technique as quickly and enjoyably as possible.
IMPORTANT CLASS INFORMATION
The class will last approximately 1 hour.
Before the tutorial you’ll receive a list of everything you’ll need for the class including the best weight of card and, if you’re in the UK, where to find it however the most important piece of equipment is your sewing machine! To enable freehand sewing the feed dog must be lowered, or a plate fitted over the feed dog with an aperture in the centre for the needle. You also need to attach an embroidery foot.
You’ll be creating your own unique designs however if you’d like any design ideas Sarah would be happy to help.
This online class is ideally suited to complete beginners or those who wish to progress further with the technique under Sarah’s guidance. You’ll be sewing with other creative people across the world in an informal and fun session.
You’ll receive a Zoom invite with a clickable link, meeting ID and password for signing in to the class approx. 2 days before the class date. Please check your inbox/junk mail folders. Use the link to enter the class on the day.
Please check that your sewing machine is able to sew freehand and is set up before the class starts – due to the class structure Sarah cannot offer much support if there is a problem with your machine.
Only registered participants may join the class. The zoom link is for your own personal use only and cannot be shared. Anyone joining the class without a confirmed registration will be removed from the session.
This is an interactive online class with cameras switched on therefore for privacy reasons it will not be recorded. I politely ask that you do not screen record the session.
If you’re unable to attend you may request a full refund up to 48hrs before the class. Unfortunately refunds cannot be issued within 48hrs of the class start time.
