Live Online Sew-Along Class: Embroidered Christmas Cards

THURSDAY 29TH OCTOBER 6PM GMT

Join Sarah for a fun, live online sew-along via Zoom, where you’ll learn how to create a beautiful collection of embroidered Christmas cards. Sarah will be sewing along with you throughout the class, guiding you through the technique and sharing her tips and advice as you go.

As you learn how to create your embroidered designs, you’ll discover:

Where to position your hands to help prevent skipped stitches and frayed thread.

How to adjust your tension to avoid loops on the back and visible bobbin thread on the front.

The best sewing speed to start with as you learn the technique.

How to appliqué pieces of fabric directly onto your card without using adhesives.

Tips for stitching tiny pieces of fabric onto your card.

How to prevent your card from splitting or bending as you sew.

Why needles sometimes break and how to help prevent this from happening.

And, of course, how to achieve those lovely, fluid lines that bring your embroidered designs to life!

Sarah will give demonstrations throughout the class as well as share plenty of hints and tips to help you develop your skills, build confidence and enjoy the process of freehand machine embroidery.

• • Important Class Information

  • Class duration: Approximately 1 hour 30 mins

    What you’ll need

    Once registered, you’ll receive a list of everything you’ll need and instructions on how to join. You’ll also receive downloadable Christmas card templates allowing you to pre-cut your fabric pieces in advance of the class.

  • You’ll need a sewing machine that is suitable for freehand sewing. Your machine must allow the feed dogs to be lowered or have a plate that fits over them with an aperture in the centre for the needle. You’ll also need an embroidery foot attached to your machine.
  • Please make sure your machine is set up and ready for freehand sewing before the class begins. As the session follows a live tutorial format Sarah will have limited time to troubleshoot individual machine issues during the class but will cover various problems and how to overcome them throughout.
  • Who is the class for?
  • All abilities welcome! Whether you’re a complete beginner or already have some experience and would like to develop your skills further, this class is a lovely opportunity to explore the technique with Sarah’s guidance.
  • You’ll be sewing alongside other creative people from around the world in a relaxed, friendly and informal setting.
  • Joining the class
  • Approximately two days before the class, you’ll receive your Zoom invitation, including a clickable link, meeting ID and password. Please check your inbox and junk mail folders if you can’t find it. On the day, simply click the link to join the session when it starts.
  • A few important things to note
  • Booking and access: Only registered participants may join the class. Your Zoom link is for your personal use only and must not be shared. Anyone joining without a confirmed registration will be removed from the session.
  • Cameras and recording: This is an interactive class with cameras switched on, so, to protect everyone’s privacy, the session will not be recorded. Please do not make your own screen recording.
  • Cancellations and refunds: If you’re unable to attend, you may request a full refund up to 48 hours before the class begins. Unfortunately, refunds cannot be issued within 48 hours of the start time.
