This ‘sew along’ live card making tutorial is accessed via Zoom on Friday 24th October 09:30 BST.
Hosted by Sarah (who’ll be sewing along too) you’ll join a small group of participants to create 4 stylised floral notecards using freehand machine embroidery, stitching small pieces of fabric directly onto card blanks (appliqué).
This online class is ideally suited to those who have previously viewed Sarah’s Online Masterclass Tutorial or who have experienced a little freehand machine embroidery and wish to create some embroidered cards. This class gives you the opportunity to progress with the technique further whilst under Sarah’s guidance with immediate support and feedback.
The class is limited to just 10 places so that support is available to all throughout.
In order to save you time and hassle Sarah has created a CARD MAKING KIT which is available to purchase for an additional cost which can be ordered up to 3 days prior to the class.
Alternatively you’re welcome to use your own pieces of fabric and card blanks – you’ll simply have to cut your pieces to a similar shape to those you can see in the photo of the cards on this page (it would help if we could all sew the same designs) – these must be cut IN ADVANCE of the online class! Cotton/poly cottons with a small print or plain and ideally mid to pale coloured fabrics are perfect. Please see below for detailed class information and requirements.
YOU WILL NEED –
Obviously your sewing machine! Please set it up in advance, lower the feed dog and attach an embroidery/darning foot. Wind your bobbin with white thread. Set your machine speed (if it has this function) to MEDIUM. You do not have to alter the stitch length. You could use a 75/11 size needle as it makes a smaller hole in the card but a larger needle is fine to use.
4 plain card blanks or pieces of card you can fold (approx 250 gsm in weight) and envelopes
An extra piece of card to practise on (we’ll do this together at the start of the class)
Either your own pre-cut pieces of fabric or those provided in Sarah’s card making kit
Sew-all machine thread – choose threads which will really stand out off the fabrics you’re using
A small pair of scissors to trim threads
IMPORTANT CLASS INFORMATION
The class will last approximately 1 hour.
You will receive a Zoom invite with a clickable link, meeting ID and password for signing in to the class approx. 2 days before the class date. Please check your inbox/junk mail folders. Use the link to enter the class on the day.
Please check that your sewing machine is able to sew freehand and is set up before the class starts – due to the class structure Sarah cannot offer support if there is a problem with your machine.
Only registered participants may join the class. The zoom link is for your own personal use only and cannot be shared. Anyone joining the class without a confirmed registration will be removed from the session.
This is an interactive online class therefore for privacy reasons it will not be recorded.
If you’re unable to attend you may request a full refund up to 48hrs before the class. Unfortunately refunds cannot be issued within 48hrs of the class start time.
